Obituary of Virginia Lucille Mortland

Virginia Lucille Mortland 1/7/34 - 10/17/23 Virginia Lucille (Lucy) Mortland was born to Harry A. and Helen I. Palmer on January 7, 1934, in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. She married the love of her life Andrew T. Mortland on April 24, 1956, in West Covina, California. They were blest with two sons, David Charles Mortland and Gregory Scott Mortland. Lucy loved raising her family while working as a pre-school teacher for many years. After retirement, she enjoyed painting, quilting, sewing, and hosting parties in their senior community in Yucaipa, CA. She shared her beautiful craftwork with all her family and friends. She was blest with a grandson, Michael Eales-Mortland, his wife, Jessica, and two great grandchildren, Robbert Skot Eales and Diamond Ann Marie Eales, whom she enjoyed and spoiled dearly. She enjoyed talking with them and seeing them on the cell phone when they called on their daddy or mommy's phone. After retirement, Andy and Lucy moved to Lake Havasu City where they enjoyed attending Calvary Baptist Church. They were faithful Christians. Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andrew Mortland, their son, David Charles Mortland, her parents, Helen and Harry Palmer, and her two sisters, Reva Smith and Geri Sweet. Lucy is survived by her son, Gregory Mortland, her daughter-in-law, Laurie Anne Mortland, her grandson, Michael Eales, his wife Jessica, her great grandson, Robbert Skot, great granddaughter Diamond Ann Marie, her sister, Violet Henderson Sloane, as well as many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Lucy also loved her extended family, Jay Williams, his wife Jen and their two children, Penny and J.J. All of Lucy's family will miss her dearly, she had such a gentle spirit. Services will be held November 11, 2023, at 11:00a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, McCulloch campus 1605 S. McCulloch Blvd., Lake Havasu City. Reception will follow the service at the same location.
