Obituary of Thelma Laverne Brown

Please share a memory of Thelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thelma Laverne Brown passed away on Monday, September 1, 2023, surrounded by family. She was 108 years old and a resident of Lake Havasu City for the past 35 years. Thelma was born in Morgan County, Missouri in 1915. She had five sisters and one brother, all of whom preceded her in death. She married Ralph G. Brown in 1934, and they moved to Bellflower, California, where she lived and raised her family until 1990. Thelma had two children: her son, Mac Brown, who was a Lake Havasu resident until he passed one year ago; and her daughter, Susan Bergman, who lives in San Clemente, CA. Thelma lived through the Great Depression and both World Wars. She spent her early years working on the Lake of the Ozarks and teaching. In Bellflower, she was a tireless volunteer and fund-raiser for the March of Dimes and the local schools. After the passing of her husband, she had many hobbies including: painting, knitting, quilting, needlepoint, traveling, spending time with her daughter on Saturdays, and spending time with her three grandchildren in the summertime. Thelma was a beloved storyteller, and perhaps an even better listener, taking keen interest in the stories of everyone she met. She had five great-grandchildren and was known to them as G.G. They enjoyed listening to her many stories, eating her homemade G.G. bread, and spending time with her on vacations. Thelma fiercely loved her great-grandchildren, and always claimed they were the reason for her amazing longevity. Faith was all of Thelma’s heart. She spent many years attending Hilltop Church here in Havasu. Thelma was a mother to many; she was an amazing neighbor and dear friend to many Havasu residents. Thelma lived a healthy, vibrant life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is now reunited with the Lord.
