Lake Havasu City, Arizona
Karen Lee Verboon passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, vivacious personality, and sense of style. Karen lived life with enthusiasm and was always ready for the next adventure. Karen was born to Theron and Hazel Mayfield on October 29, 1942, in Elderwood, California, and grew up in nearby Woodlake with her two brothers, Jim and Jerry. She graduated from Woodlake Union High School.
Karen met the love of her life, Bill Verboon, while cruising Mooney Boulevard, igniting a shared love of fast and shiny cars. They married in 1960 and soon welcomed their two children, Sandra and Doug. Together, Karen and Bill built a life filled with family, laughter, and adventure. They enjoyed classic cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, skydiving, waterskiing, whitewater rafting, and traveling, always embracing the opportunity to try something new and make another memory.
Karen and Bill originally made their home in Hanford, California and operated Gold Top Ranch, before splitting their time between Lake Havasu City, Arizona and Tetonia, Idaho, where Karen especially enjoyed the wild buffalo of nearby Yellowstone.
Karen’s vibrant personality and zest for life left an impression on everyone who knew her. She had a way of bringing energy and excitement wherever she went, and her thrill for life was matched by her love for her family. Her style, spirit, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed.
Her legacy will live on through her daughter Sandra Verboon; her son Doug Verboon (Jill); grandchildren Cassie Verboon, Courtney Verboon, Arie Verboon, Kari Barba, Chelsea Verboon, Kelsey Pasqual (Michael), Chase Reed; and her great-grandchildren, Drake Valdivia, Quinn Pasqual, and Liam Pasqual; and her brothers, Jim Mayfield and Jerry (Carla) Mayfield, as well as many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Bill, in 2023.
A Celebration of Life for Karen and Bill will be held Saturday, October 17th, 2026 at The Gold Top Ranch in Hanford, California. Details will be announced at a later date.
Karen leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will carry her spirit with them
